The Federal Government has stepped up reconstruction efforts in Tudun Biri community of Kaduna State, following the accidental military drone strike that claimed lives and destroyed property in December 2023.
Speaking with journalists on Friday in the community, the Kaduna State Commissioner for Information, Ahmed Maiyaki, said the intervention was being implemented through a joint effort between the Federal Government and the state authorities.
He disclosed that the collaboration led to the construction of 134 housing units in the first phase of the rebuilding project, noting that the homes had already been inaugurated by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
According to Maiyaki, the houses were allocated to families of victims who lost their lives in the incident, as well as other affected residents of the community.
He added that the Nigerian military had also constructed a school to support education in the area, while the state government provided alternative farmlands with certificates of occupancy to families whose lands were used for the redevelopment.
The commissioner further said a skills acquisition centre had been established to empower youths, alongside the reconstruction of the mosque affected by the incident and the construction of a new church to promote religious harmony.
He noted that additional infrastructure projects carried out in the community include a six-kilometre road network, solar-powered street lighting and a level-two healthcare facility to improve access to medical services.
Tudun Biri, located near the Kaduna International Airport, came under global attention after a Nigerian Air Force drone strike mistakenly hit the community during a military operation in December 2023, resulting in casualties and widespread destruction.
