A chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Buba Galadima, has indicated that former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and his Kano State counterpart, Rabiu Kwankwaso, are set to announce a new political platform on Monday.
Galadima, who is the Secretary of the party’s Board of Trustees, made the disclosure on Saturday at a stakeholders’ meeting organised by the Obi-Kwankwaso Movement in Abuja.
Although he did not disclose the name of the platform, sources within the opposition camp hinted that both leaders were concluding arrangements to align with a newly formed party reportedly linked to former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson.
A source close to the development, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the leaders and their associates had already begun formalising their membership.
“All arrangements have been concluded. Both Obi and Kwankwaso will make their positions known on Monday,” the source said.
The planned move follows weeks of speculation surrounding the political future of the two opposition figures, particularly in the wake of recent legal developments affecting party structures.
Addressing supporters, Galadima urged them to remain vigilant, warning of possible backlash following the anticipated announcement.
He alleged that opponents might deploy media campaigns and social media attacks against the leaders, calling on supporters to respond strategically.
According to him, opposition figures have faced sustained pressure, including attempts to weaken political platforms through legal and institutional means.
Also speaking at the event, Isaac Fayose expressed support for the proposed alliance, describing it as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Similarly, activist Aisha Yesufu called for national unity, urging Nigerians to set aside ethnic and regional divisions in pursuit of collective progress.
The development underscores ongoing political realignments within opposition ranks as preparations intensify for the next electoral cycle.
