The Labour Party has unveiled its timetable for the 2026 primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections, fixing N50 million as the cost of its presidential nomination and expression of interest forms.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa.
According to the party, the schedule is in line with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), the Electoral Act 2026, and guidelines released by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
A breakdown of the fees shows that presidential aspirants are to pay N10 million for the expression of interest form and N40 million for the nomination form, bringing the total to N50 million.
The party also fixed fees for other elective positions, with House of Assembly aspirants expected to pay N3 million, House of Representatives aspirants N5 million, Senate aspirants N10 million, and governorship aspirants N25 million.
Asogwa disclosed that the party had approved concessions for women, youths aged between 25 and 30, and persons living with disabilities, who will only be required to pay for expressionp of interest forms across all categories.
He further revealed that the party’s National Leader and Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, would receive both forms free of charge in recognition of his contributions and performance in office.
According to the timetable, the sale of nomination forms will commence on May 6 and end on May 16, while submission of completed forms is slated for May 17 and May 18.
Screening of House of Assembly and governorship aspirants is scheduled for May 20, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants will be screened on May 22. The results are expected to be released on May 23.
The party said appeals arising from the screening exercise would be heard on May 24 for state-level positions and May 25 for National Assembly and presidential aspirants, with the final list of cleared candidates to be published on May 26.
Primaries for House of Assembly and governorship seats have been fixed for May 27, while those for National Assembly and presidential positions will hold on May 29.
The party also urged intending aspirants to complete their membership registration before the May 4 deadline, ahead of the submission of its register to INEC.
