The Nigerian Army has confirmed the arrest of a blogger and social media influencer, Justice Chidiebere, over allegations of inciting soldiers and spreading misleading information.
Chidiebere, popularly known as Justice Crack, was apprehended following complaints by some military personnel over issues relating to feeding and welfare, which were reportedly escalated on social media.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, said the development is currently under investigation for a possible violation of the Armed Forces’ Social Media Policy.
According to the Army, preliminary findings revealed that the blogger engaged in discussions with soldiers on a range of concerns and allegedly encouraged sentiments capable of undermining discipline within the ranks.
The statement noted that some of the exchanges were considered sensitive, with at least one interaction said to border on subversive conduct, raising concerns about its implications for national security.
“It is important to state that a situation where civilians cultivate vulnerable personnel towards acts of subversion has far-reaching implications on discipline and national security,” the Army stated.
The military disclosed that Chidiebere was arrested alongside the soldiers involved in the conversations. While the affected personnel remain in military custody, the influencer has been handed over to appropriate civil authorities for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Reaffirming its commitment to due process, the Army said it would continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to ensure justice is served.
It added that all actions taken were within the bounds of the law and aimed at safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty.
