Former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has called on Nigerians to register and join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing it as a credible platform committed to strengthening democracy in the country.
Kwankwaso made the appeal in a statement posted on Monday after formally joining the party alongside former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, on Sunday.
Both politicians had earlier left the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing uncertainty within the party following a Supreme Court ruling on April 30 that affected its internal structure.
Speaking after receiving his membership card, Kwankwaso said he and Obi joined the NDC after discovering shared values and political ideology with the party leadership.
He said the goal of the movement is to offer Nigerians a platform where they can achieve good governance and national development.
“We are determined to provide a credible platform where people can thrive and realise their full potential,” Kwankwaso said.
He urged supporters and Nigerians at large to register with the NDC ahead of its membership deadline, describing the party as a vehicle for democratic reform and better governance.
Kwankwaso also noted that the movement is focused on rebuilding trust in politics and ensuring citizens are actively involved in shaping the country’s future.
During the party event in Abuja, Obi also encouraged members to avoid internal disputes and court cases, stressing the need to focus on building a strong political alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
The recent developments mark a major shift in Nigeria’s political landscape as key opposition figures realign ahead of the next general elections.
