The camp loyal to Seyi Makinde is set to unveil a caretaker committee for the Peoples Democratic Party, with Tanimu Turaki expected to head the 10-member body.
The development follows a meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees led by Adolphus Wabara in Abuja, where Turaki reportedly emerged as the preferred candidate to stabilise the party amid its leadership crisis.
The move comes after the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the Makinde-backed national convention held in Ibadan, citing a violation of existing court orders.
Wabara said the caretaker committee would help restore order and reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, adding that the Board had secured the required support to convene a National Executive Committee meeting.
However, the faction aligned with Nyesom Wike rejected the move, insisting there is no leadership vacuum in the party and dismissing the planned announcement as illegitimate.
Meanwhile, sources indicate that Makinde may formally declare his presidential ambition in the coming days as the party continues to grapple with internal divisions.
