No fewer than 16 members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday dumped the African Democratic Congress for the Nigerian Democratic Congress, citing unresolved internal challenges within their former party.
The defections were announced during plenary at the Green Chamber by the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu, who read the lawmakers’ notices on the floor of the House.
The legislators attributed their decision to lingering disputes within the ADC, which they said had made it difficult for them to function effectively within the party.
Those who switched allegiance to the NDC include Yusuf Datti, Uchenna Okonkwo, Adamu Wakili, Thaddeus Attah, George Ozodinobi, Lilian Orogbu, Oluwaseyi Sowunmi, Peter Aniekwe, Mukhtar Zakari, George Oluwande, and Munachim Umezuruike.
Others are Emeka Idu, Jesse Onuakalusi, Ifeanyi Uzokwe, Afam Ogene, and Abdulhakeem Ado.
The development marks a significant shift in the composition of opposition forces in the House, as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
