Adolphus Wabara, chairman of the board of trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the party’s newly constituted interim national working committee (NWC).
The committee, backed by Seyi Makinde, was set up to oversee the party’s affairs following internal disputes. It is headed by Kabiru Turaki and includes several other party members, with Taofeek Arapaja serving as secretary.
The development comes after the Supreme Court of Nigeria nullified the PDP national convention held in November 2025, ruling that it violated an earlier court order.
Speaking at the party’s 103rd NEC meeting in Abuja, Wabara said the interim committee was part of efforts to stabilise and reposition the party. He urged INEC to comply with the court’s ruling and update its records to reflect the new leadership.
“We have taken steps to put our party back on a solid footing… I urge INEC to respect the judgment and update its portal with the interim NWC,” he said.
Wabara also criticised the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of causing hardship for Nigerians and expressing confidence that the PDP would return to power in 2027.
He called on party members to set aside differences and work together to rebuild the party ahead of the next general elections.
Turaki, in his remarks, assured that the interim committee would work to reposition the PDP and secure electoral victories in the upcoming polls.
