2027: APC waives fresh screening for Tinubu ahead of presidential primary

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress has approved a waiver of fresh screening requirements for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the party’s forthcoming presidential primary.

The decision was reached on Wednesday during the NWC’s 188th meeting held in Abuja.

In a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the committee said the President would be regarded as having met all screening conditions in line with the party’s constitution.

The party explained that Tinubu had already undergone the screening process prior to the 2022 presidential primaries, making a repeat exercise unnecessary.

According to the statement, the committee also considered the widespread endorsement the President has received from key stakeholders within the party, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs.

It added that subjecting the incumbent President to another screening process would be redundant, given his status as both the sitting President and leader of the party.

The development comes as the ruling party intensifies preparations for its internal processes ahead of the 2027 general elections.
