The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday criticised the recent defection of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, describing it as a search for a “ready-made” political platform.
Wike made the remarks during a media parley in Abuja, where he questioned Obi’s political trajectory and commitment to party-building.
The minister argued that the former Anambra State governor had failed to strengthen political structures in parties he previously belonged to, alleging a pattern of moving on rather than consolidating gains.
According to him, Obi’s political moves suggest a preference for platforms that are already established rather than investing in long-term development.
He said Obi had been unable to build the All Progressives Grand Alliance during his time in the party before leaving for the Labour Party, from which he also eventually exited.
Obi, alongside former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, recently joined the Nigerian Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections, a development that has continued to generate mixed reactions within the political space.
