A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the interim forfeiture of nine properties linked to Timipre Sylva to the Federal Government.
Justice Obiora Egwuatu granted the order after an ex parte application filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
The properties, located in different parts of Abuja, include terraces in Dakibiyu, duplexes in Maitama and Mpape, flats in Wuse II and Garki, as well as a two-block building occupied by the National Information Technology Development Agency.
According to the court, the assets are suspected to be proceeds of unlawful activities pending the hearing for a final forfeiture order.
The court also directed the EFCC to publish the order in national newspapers within seven days, giving interested parties 14 days to show cause why the properties should not be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government.
The case was adjourned to May 25 for a compliance report.
Timipre Sylva, a former governor of Bayelsa State, has also been mentioned in reports relating to an alleged failed coup plot against President Bola Tinubu, although no formal charges have been filed against him in that matter.
