Nyesom Wike: Makinde-backed PDP faction says ‘we regret giving him platform’

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party aligned with Seyi Makinde has criticised Nyesom Wike over comments he made during a recent media appearance.

In a statement signed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the group described Wike’s remarks as reckless and disrespectful, accusing him of attacking prominent Nigerians without restraint.

The faction said it regretted supporting Wike’s rise to positions of power, including his emergence as governor and later FCT minister, adding that his recent conduct had become embarrassing to the party.

“We regret giving him the platform that elevated him to national prominence,” the statement said.

The group also advised individuals allegedly defamed by Wike to seek legal action, stressing that nobody is above the law.

On the PDP leadership crisis, the faction dismissed claims about the existence of a “National Leader” position in the party, insisting that such a role is not recognised by the party’s constitution.

It further maintained that preparations for party primaries, the national convention, and other activities would continue despite the ongoing internal tensions.

The Makinde-backed faction suggested that Wike’s outburst may be connected to frustration over his inability to influence the party’s direction, especially concerning the emergence of its future presidential candidate.
