The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly responded to threats made by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over the opening of party accounts and operation of offices by the faction.
Wike had warned that any bank allowing the group to open accounts for the sale of nomination forms would “be in trouble” and also threatened to seal off buildings used by the faction. He challenged the group to publicly prove its legitimacy by operating transparent party accounts.
Reacting in a statement, the faction’s spokesperson, Ini Ememobong, described Wike’s comments as “delusional,” insisting that the faction already operates official PDP accounts and that Wike is fully aware of it. The group accused the minister of political desperation and frustration over the party’s ongoing activities ahead of future primaries and conventions.
The faction also claimed Wike had failed in his alleged attempt to “hold down” the PDP for his political allies, insisting that the sale of nomination forms and preparations for the party’s convention would continue despite his threats.
The political tension comes after the Makinde-backed PDP faction appointed Kabiru Turaki to head an interim national working committee following a Supreme Court ruling that invalidated the party’s 2025 convention in Ibadan.
