The All Progressives Congress screening exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections continued on Saturday, with over 14 governors appearing before the party’s screening committee, while Siminalayi Fubara was notably absent.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu also has only one challenger in the APC presidential race, identified as Stanley Osifo, who confirmed he fully participated in the screening process.
The APC began selling nomination and expression of interest forms on April 28, while screenings for governors started on May 8 and are expected to end on May 10. The party plans to conduct its primaries between May 15 and May 23, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Governors screened include Abba Yusuf, Inuwa Yahaya, Nasir Idris, Caleb Muftwang, Hyacinth Alia, and Sheriff Oborevwori among others.
Speaking after his screening, Umo Eno praised the exercise, describing it as smooth and a sign of unity between APC governors and the party leadership. He also defended Tinubu’s administration, saying there were visible signs of economic improvement and “light at the end of the tunnel.”
Meanwhile, Fubara’s absence has fueled fresh speculation about his political future amid his ongoing feud with former Rivers governor and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
APC National Chairman Nentawe Yilwatda explained that governors unable to attend due to official state duties would still be given another opportunity to appear before the committee.
Reports also claimed that some Rivers political figures obtained APC governorship forms on behalf of Fubara, although it remains unclear whether the governor personally approved the move.
