The Katsina State Government has released ₦328 million for the first phase of its 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme aimed at supporting medical students studying in different universities.
The initiative, approved by Governor Dikko Radda, will benefit about 650 medical students across 33 accredited institutions within and outside Nigeria.
The General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Muhammad Nazir, disclosed this in a statement issued through the board’s secretary, Abu Usman, on Saturday.
According to the statement, the programme was introduced to ease the financial burden faced by medical students during their academic and professional training.
The government described the scheme as part of its broader plan to strengthen healthcare delivery by investing in human capital development.
The statement noted that the Hospital Services Management Board supervised the disbursement process to ensure transparency and proper distribution to qualified beneficiaries.
It added that the initiative would help create a steady pipeline of competent healthcare professionals capable of meeting the medical needs of Katsina State and the country at large.
The government also revealed that additional phases of the allowance scheme would be implemented as part of its continued commitment to developing the healthcare sector.
