An Abuja-based lawyer and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Eunice Ameh, who was abducted earlier in the week, has regained her freedom.
Her release was confirmed on Sunday by human rights lawyer Festus Ogun via his social media page, with reports indicating that a ransom was paid before she was freed.
Ameh was reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Maitama area of Abuja shortly after closing from work. She was later released and found safe on Sunday.
According to Ogun, “Eunice, the Abuja lawyer earlier abducted, has been freed after payment of ransom.”
A family source also confirmed her release, stating that she was found alive and unharmed.
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) had earlier expressed deep concern over her disappearance, calling for urgent intervention from security agencies. NBA President Afam Osigwe described the incident as painful to the legal community, stressing that lawyers must stand together in moments like this.
Ameh had recently started working as a Sales Manager at a private company in Abuja while also completing her NYSC service. She was said to have been last seen around 5:40 p.m. on the day she was kidnapped while heading home to her residence in Life Camp.
Security agencies had since launched an investigation following the report of her abduction.
