The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has stated that it is awaiting the outcome of an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving one of its pastors in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
According to the church’s Publicity Secretary, Lanre Oyegbola, RCCG is aware of the incident and is currently monitoring the probe being carried out by relevant authorities before taking any disciplinary action.
The accused pastor, attached to the RCCG Strongtower parish near Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), came under public scrutiny after a viral video showed a confrontation during a church service, where a young woman—reportedly a student of LAUTECH—accused him of attempted rape and sexual coercion.
In the video, the woman alleged that the pastor invited her to his residence under the guise of collecting food she had prepared for him, but later made sexual advances and attempted to force himself on her despite her refusal. She further claimed he escalated the situation by demanding oral sex after failing to have intercourse.
Following the incident, she also alleged that the pastor made disturbing comments suggesting similar behaviour with other female members of the church.
During the confrontation captured on video, the pastor briefly responded before the recording ended.
RCCG said it would not take internal disciplinary steps until investigations by the school authorities and other relevant bodies are concluded. Oyegbola emphasized that the church is waiting for official findings before deciding its next course of action.
Meanwhile, LAUTECH management said it was not yet fully aware of the case but would investigate to determine if a formal complaint had been lodged.
The Oyo State Police Command also stated that it had not received an official report on the matter, though it noted that such cases are typically handled by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
The allegations have sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many calling for a thorough and transparent investigation, while others urged caution and due process.
Religious leaders have also weighed in, stressing the importance of moral accountability and proper investigation to ensure justice is served for all parties involved.
