Heavy security deployed in Akure ahead of Shettima’s visit, Fasoranti’s 100th birthday

Security operatives were heavily deployed across Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Monday ahead of the visit of Vice-President Kashim Shettima to the state.

Shettima is expected to inaugurate the Onyearugbulem Flyover constructed by the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and also attend activities marking the 100th birthday celebration of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

The Ondo State Police Command confirmed that extensive security arrangements had been put in place to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free event.

Speaking with journalists, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the security measures were aimed at guaranteeing the safety of the Vice-President, the celebrant, and guests expected at the events.

According to him, personnel of the Police Mobile Force, tactical squads, and Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear units were strategically positioned across major locations in the state capital.

“The command has put in place robust security architecture to ensure the safety of the Vice-President, Pa Fasoranti, and all visitors during the celebration,” Jimoh said.

He added that the deployment was designed to prevent any form of security breach and maintain public order throughout the visit.

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Federal Road Safety Corps, and the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, were also seen monitoring key roads leading to Fasoranti’s residence and other strategic areas.

The Onyearugbulem Flyover, which Shettima is billed to inaugurate, was flagged off in July 2023 by the late former governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu.
