2027: Ganduje, ex-Kano Deputy Gov meet Shettima over APC politics

Former Kano State Deputy Governor and immediate past Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja amid growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Also present at the meeting were former Kano State Governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the lawmaker representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi.

It was gathered that discussions during the meeting centred on political developments in Kano North and broader party affairs within the All Progressives Congress.

The development was disclosed in a statement shared on Gwarzo’s verified Facebook page shortly after the meeting.

“Today, together with the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency, Abba Abubakar Kabir Bichi, we met with the Vice President of Nigeria, His Excellency Kashim Shettima,” he wrote.

Gwarzo added that the Vice President wished them success in their political activities and consultations ahead of the next election cycle.

“We discussed politics and political affairs in Kano North, and he wished us success and prosperity in our political journey,” he stated.

The meeting comes days after Gwarzo was screened as an aspirant for the Kano North Senatorial District seat on the platform of the APC.

Kano North remains one of the most influential political blocs in Kano State, with several top APC figures from the zone expected to play prominent roles ahead of the 2027 elections.

Notable political stakeholders from the district include Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, Ganduje, Kano State Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo, Abba Bichi and Gwarzo.

The Kano North Senatorial seat is currently occupied by Barau, who is also expected to seek re-election in 2027.

The latest meeting is coming amid intensified consultations and alliance-building within the APC in Kano State ahead of the next general elections.

Meanwhile, another aspirant for the Kano North senatorial seat, Mahmoud Baba Bichi, recently withdrew from the race following reports of intervention by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, aimed at preserving party unity.
