Abba Anas Adamu, a former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has died in captivity after kidnappers allegedly received a ₦50 million ransom for his release.
Adamu, who previously represented the Guri/Kirikasamma/Birniwa federal constituency in Jigawa State, was abducted alongside his associate, Ali Tukur Gantsa, along the Rijana area of the Kaduna-Abuja highway while travelling back to Kano.
According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded ₦200 million before negotiations reportedly reduced the amount to ₦50 million.
Despite the payment, Adamu was reportedly killed by the abductors. His death was confirmed after the kidnappers allegedly directed his son to the location where his body had been dumped.
The incident has sparked grief among family members, political associates and residents of Jigawa State, with many condemning the worsening insecurity and kidnapping crisis across the country.
