Former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has withdrawn from the race for the Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Gwarzo announced his decision in a statement released after consultations with political stakeholders across the national, state and zonal levels, saying the move was aimed at promoting unity within the ruling All Progressives Congress.
According to him, stepping down became necessary in the interest of party cohesion and electoral success ahead of the 2027 polls.
“In deference to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and following extensive consultations with all concerned, I have decided to step down my senatorial aspiration,” Gwarzo stated.
Reports indicated that the decision followed a meeting of key APC stakeholders from Kano North held on Tuesday night. The meeting was reportedly attended by Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and former APC National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
Others present included Kano APC Chairman Umar Haruna Doguwa and Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo.
During the meeting, Gwarzo formally endorsed Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin as the consensus candidate for Kano North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.
The former minister thanked his supporters, political associates, youths, women groups, elders, Islamic scholars and members of his media support team for standing by him throughout his political consultations.
He also acknowledged the support and guidance of Vice President Kashim Shettima, Ganduje, and other political allies, describing their leadership and counsel as valuable.
Gwarzo reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for the party’s growth and electoral success in Kano State and across Nigeria.
