A Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, to 75 years imprisonment over a ₦33.8 billion money laundering and fraud case.
The judgment followed his conviction on all 12 charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Justice James Omotosho sentenced Mamman to seven years imprisonment on 10 counts, while counts four and five attracted three years and two years respectively. The court ruled that the sentences would run consecutively.
The judge also stated that there would be no option of fine on most of the counts, except count four, where Mamman was given the option of a ₦10 million fine.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court ordered the forfeiture of foreign currencies recovered from the former minister as well as four properties in Abuja linked to him.
The case is one of the biggest corruption convictions involving a former cabinet member in recent years, as anti-graft agencies continue investigations into financial crimes linked to public office holders in Nigeria.
