Abdullahi Yakasai has rejected allegations by the African Democratic Congress that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC governors diverted over ₦800 billion from federation allocations to fund preparations for the 2027 elections.
Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Yakasai described the accusation as baseless and politically motivated, insisting that the figures being circulated were based on misinformation and a misunderstanding of official financial records.
According to him, the Federal Government had already denied the claims and clarified that the deductions referenced were linked to lawful financial obligations such as taxes, consultancy payments and other approved statutory disbursements from the Federation Allocation Account.
“These are just allegations and we have clearly denied them. The federal government has categorically rejected the claims,” Yakasai said.
He argued that since the government had denied the accusation, it was now the responsibility of the ADC to provide evidence to support its claims.
Yakasai also dismissed suggestions that Tinubu was losing support in Northern Nigeria, especially in the North-West region, describing such claims as opposition propaganda ahead of the next general election.
He maintained that the president still enjoys strong grassroots backing due to policies aimed at improving development at state and local government levels, including the removal of fuel subsidy, student loan initiatives, agricultural support programmes and healthcare interventions.
The presidential aide further claimed that the administration had made progress in security, noting that thousands of kidnapped victims had reportedly been rescued since 2023.
On Kano politics, Yakasai said the All Progressives Congress had expanded significantly in the state, alleging that all 44 local government chairmen, councillors and several ward leaders had joined the party.
