The Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) has denied reports claiming it approved a 40% peculiar allowance for federal civil servants.
In a statement released by its Director of Press and Public Relations, Eno Olotu, the office said it did not approve or communicate any such allowance to the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) or any labour union. It clarified that the circular being circulated was issued by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) on 23 April 2026, not the OHCSF.
The Head of Service explained that a recent meeting with labour representatives was only an intervention to encourage dialogue between workers and the NSIWC, and not an approval of any new payment.
The statement also referenced earlier government announcements about broader welfare improvements for civil servants, including adjustments to allowances, tour duty payments, and housing loan support.
Overall, the OHCSF emphasized that it remains committed to maintaining industrial harmony and proper communication with labour groups.
