Several persons sustained injuries on Monday morning after a speeding vehicle reportedly crashed into two commercial tricycles along Ipaja Road in Lagos State.
The accident, which occurred around 8:50 a.m. at the Federal Bus Stop area, involved a Honda car with registration number KTU 921 JY and two tricycles conveying passengers.
Eyewitnesses at the scene said the female driver of the Honda vehicle was allegedly driving at high speed when she attempted to avoid a Lagos Waste Management Authority sweeper working by the roadside.
According to witnesses, the vehicle struck the sweeper before swerving across the road and crashing into the tricycles on the opposite lane.
The impact of the collision reportedly left about 10 passengers with varying degrees of injuries.
While some of the victims sustained serious injuries, others escaped with minor wounds.
Our correspondent gathered that the injured passengers were initially rushed to a nearby private hospital for emergency treatment before some were later transferred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for further medical attention.
Police officers from the Gowon Estate Divisional Headquarters, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and neighbourhood security personnel were seen at the scene coordinating rescue operations and controlling traffic.
The accident caused temporary gridlock along the busy Ipaja Road axis as sympathisers and emergency responders gathered at the scene.
Authorities had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
