A youth activist, Dr. Tom FredFish, has called on governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to speak out against what he described as attempts to sideline Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, ahead of the 2027 elections.
FredFish made the appeal while reacting to reports that loyalists of the Rivers governor were allegedly screened out of the party’s primary elections.
According to him, individuals who recently aligned with the party structure were allegedly being favoured because of their loyalty to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
He warned that such developments could undermine internal democracy and encourage a political culture where loyalty to influential figures takes precedence over commitment and service to the party.
The activist stated that Governor Fubara deserved the same political support, protection and opportunities enjoyed by other APC governors across the country, including the right to freely seek a second term.
“The Progressive Governors Forum must do more than remain silent observers. They must stand firmly with one of their own and defend the principles of fairness and justice within the party structure,” he said.
FredFish also urged the governors to seek an audience with President Bola Tinubu to demand equal treatment for Fubara and ensure that democratic principles are upheld within the ruling party.
He added that continued marginalisation of loyal party members in favour of political newcomers could send the wrong message to young Nigerians and grassroots supporters who believe in democratic participation and party loyalty.
