A member of the House of Representatives, Abdulkadir Rahis, has distributed ₦26 million in cash to 442 executives of the All Progressives Congress in his Maiduguri constituency following his victory in the party’s primaries.
The cash disbursement, described as part of Sallah celebrations, came shortly after Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan reportedly shared ₦135.6 million among party executives in the same constituency, sparking widespread reactions.
Rahis, who won the APC primary with 20,509 votes, said the gesture was in line with his tradition of supporting party loyalists and stakeholders during festive periods. The event attracted ward executives, supporters, and party stakeholders across the constituency.
He described the distribution as a show of appreciation for the loyalty and commitment of party members ahead of the Sallah celebration.
However, the move has drawn mixed reactions. While supporters praised the gesture as grassroots support, critics raised concerns about transparency, accountability, and the growing trend of large cash handouts in Nigerian politics.
