Atiku Abubakar has criticised the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu over worsening insecurity across the country, describing recent killings and abductions as evidence of a “collapse of leadership”.
In a statement released by his aide, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku condemned the abduction of schoolchildren and teachers in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, as well as killings reported in Katsina State.
The former vice president said Nigerians were tired of repeated government condemnations after violent attacks without decisive action to stop the insecurity.
According to him, armed groups now operate “with terrifying confidence” because they no longer fear the Nigerian state.
“At a time when criminals are abducting schoolchildren and attacking communities, the government keeps responding with statements instead of concrete action,” Atiku said.
He also criticised what he described as attempts to suppress graphic evidence of attacks, arguing that any government more focused on controlling narratives than protecting lives had failed morally and politically.
Atiku called for the immediate rescue of all abducted victims in Oyo State, stronger security operations in vulnerable communities, and a comprehensive overhaul of Nigeria’s security system.
Nigeria has continued to face kidnappings, bandit attacks, and violent killings in several parts of the country, especially in the North-West and North-Central regions.
