Kano ALGON chair escapes attack during APC rally

Sa’adatu Maijama’a, chairperson of the Kano chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), narrowly escaped an attack by suspected political thugs during an APC rally in Rano, Kano State.

Maijama’a, who is also the chairman of Tudun Wada Local Government Area, was reportedly rescued by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) after the attackers allegedly advanced towards her with machetes and other weapons.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened as she approached a Coaster bus carrying senior government officials, including Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the political gathering.

Security operatives attached to the governor’s convoy quickly intervened, shielded her from the attackers, and evacuated her in an SUV while the suspects allegedly continued attacking the vehicle.

A witness said:
“Even as the SSS operatives saved her, they started attacking the vehicle. But for the quick intervention of the SSS operatives, she would have been dead.”

Following the incident, Governor Yusuf reportedly convened an emergency security council meeting over rising political violence and insecurity in Kano State.

The attack has renewed concerns about political thuggery and the activities of armed gangs popularly known as “yan daba” across parts of Kano.
