Vice-President Kashim Shettima has revealed that some unnamed individuals allegedly told President Bola Tinubu that he planned to assassinate him and take over power shortly after they assumed office in 2023.
Shettima made the disclosure during the public presentation of the autobiography of former Head of State Yakubu Gowon titled My Life of Duty and Allegiance.
According to the vice-president, the individuals behind the allegation were from his home state of Borno. He said President Tinubu later confronted him over the claims but dismissed them after noticing inconsistencies in the story.
Shettima explained that the accusation centred around clothes he had gifted Tinubu before the 2023 presidential election. According to him, the accusers claimed the clothes were spiritually manipulated and intended to harm the president after the election.
However, Tinubu reportedly rejected the allegation, arguing that at the time the clothes were given, neither of them knew they would eventually become president and vice-president.
Shettima added that Tinubu continued wearing the clothes despite the warnings because he was not superstitious.
The vice-president used the occasion to call for national unity and urged Nigerians to avoid promoting division, suspicion, and political mistrust.
