A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Desmond Elliot, has dismissed speculations of a strained relationship between him and the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila.
Speaking during an interview with BBC Pidgin on Tuesday, the Surulere lawmaker insisted that he remained loyal to both President Bola Tinubu and Gbajabiamila despite recent political rumours.
Elliot said democracy should not be mistaken for a military system where subordinates openly confront their leaders, stressing that the stature of Tinubu and Gbajabiamila commanded his respect.
“We are in a democracy and not a military regime. The names of President Tinubu and Gbajabiamila are too big for me,” he said.
The actor-turned-politician described Gbajabiamila as his political leader and father figure, adding that disagreements were normal in every relationship and should not be exaggerated.
“I’m loyal to him, and he loves me like a son. Even between father and son, there can be misunderstandings once in a while, and people settle it,” Elliot stated.
He added that he was not expecting outsiders to intervene in any perceived misunderstanding, noting that respect and patience remained important in resolving issues between political allies.
According to him, his priority remains strengthening support for the All Progressives Congress in Surulere and working towards Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
Elliot also said the recent political developments had strengthened his faith, adding that public office required divine guidance and wisdom.
