The spokesperson to Kano State Governor, Sanusi Bature, has dismissed the possibility of a successful political alliance between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Bature said the proposed Obi-Kwankwaso presidential ticket lacked ideological alignment and would struggle to gain acceptance, particularly in Kano State.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Wednesday, the governor’s aide claimed that Kwankwaso previously held unfavourable views about Obi and would find it difficult to genuinely align with him politically.
“When you see Obi in Kano, for us it is a surprise because the same Kwankwaso who said he has a PhD is now with Obi who has an undergraduate degree,” he said.
Bature further alleged that Kwankwaso had, in the past, viewed Obi as sympathetic to Biafra agitation, questioning the sincerity and sustainability of any partnership between the two politicians.
“The same Kwankwaso who saw Obi as just a Biafra agent is now craving to be his vice-presidential candidate,” he added.
According to him, the alliance does not reflect the Kwankwaso many of his supporters know, describing the former governor as a politician who had always projected himself as straightforward and development-driven.
He maintained that the partnership was temporary and unlikely to succeed because both men hold different political ideologies and approaches to governance.
“I don’t even think that this Obi/Kwankwaso ticket can work because the two of them have very different opinions and political views,” Bature stated.
The comments come amid growing political realignments and speculations over possible coalitions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
