Nigerian social media personality, Bobrisky, has criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing the agency of placing excessive focus on minor currency offences such as naira spraying while neglecting more serious crimes in the country.
In a viral interview shared by Naija News TV, Bobrisky expressed dissatisfaction with what she described as selective enforcement of the law, arguing that security agencies should prioritise tackling issues like banditry,corruption, and other violent crimes rather than concentrating on social events where naira spraying occurs.
The criticism comes amid ongoing debates over EFCC’s crackdown on the abuse of the naira, particularly the spraying of banknotes at parties and celebrations. While the practice is culturally common in Nigeria, it is prohibited under the country’s financial laws, leading to arrests and prosecutions in recent years.
EFCC has maintained that its enforcement actions are aimed at protecting the integrity of the national currency. However, critics argue that the agency’s focus on entertainers and influencers reflects an uneven application of justice.
