Lagos State lawmaker and actor, Desmond Elliot, has rejected the outcome of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for Surulere Constituency I and has vowed to challenge the process through the party’s appeal mechanism.
Elliot lost the party’s ticket to Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, who reportedly secured 11,385 votes in the primary held on Wednesday, while the lawmaker polled 270 votes.
Reacting to the result, Elliot expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the exercise, insisting that the process was flawed and would be formally contested within the party’s structures.
He alleged that violence and intimidation marred the primary, claiming that several of his supporters were injured during the exercise and denied access to the voting venue.
According to him, many of his supporters were prevented from entering the polling area, raising concerns about fairness and transparency in the process.
Elliot also questioned claims that some membership cards presented by his supporters were fake, arguing that proper verification procedures were not followed before such conclusions were made.
He maintained that he never withdrew from the race but only instructed his agents and supporters to step back due to irregularities observed during the exercise.
Despite rejecting the outcome, the lawmaker reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and said he remains committed to serving the people of Surulere Constituency.
