A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Dr George-Kelly, has withdrawn from the party’s primary election and pledged full support for the eventual candidate.
George-Kelly announced his decision in a statement personally signed on Wednesday, saying it followed consultations with his political team and key stakeholders after a meeting convened by the party’s national leadership.
He explained that his withdrawal was taken in the interest of party unity and in line with efforts to strengthen cohesion within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the decision also reflects respect for party leadership and the need for strategic alignment within the Rivers APC.
Shortly after his withdrawal, George-Kelly reaffirmed his loyalty to the party and pledged to support whoever emerges as the APC governorship candidate at the end of the primaries.
He also described his political journey as one guided by loyalty, discipline, and respect for constituted authority, adding that he remains committed to ensuring victory for the APC and President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections.
George-Kelly urged party members and supporters to remain united and focused on strengthening the party ahead of the polls.
