The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it will conduct its House of Assembly primaries in Ondo State using the direct primary system, with the exercise scheduled for May 28 across 15 state constituencies.
The party said the decision is in line with its national timetable and reflects its readiness to fully participate in the forthcoming general elections.
Speaking on the development, the NDC State Chairman, Peretie, said preparations had been concluded to ensure a smooth and credible process across the affected constituencies.
According to him, the primaries will be conducted through a direct mode of affirmation involving eligible aspirants within the party structure.
He explained that only aspirants who have completed the purchase of expression of interest and nomination forms, and met all stipulated requirements, will be allowed to participate in the exercise.
“We are fully prepared for the primaries. All necessary logistics have been put in place to ensure a smooth, transparent and credible exercise across the state,” he said.
Peretie also urged party members and aspirants to maintain peace and strictly adhere to laid-down guidelines before, during and after the primaries, warning that any conduct capable of undermining the process would attract disciplinary action.
He stressed that the outcome of the exercise would be crucial in demonstrating the party’s strength and preparedness ahead of the general elections, particularly in constituencies expected to witness keen competition.
“We are fully prepared for the APC in the forthcoming general elections. Our candidates will emerge victorious because Nigerians are increasingly looking for an alternative to the ruling party,” he added.
