Ekiti ADC candidate remanded over alleged rape as party alleges political witch-hunt

A magistrate court in Ado Ekiti has remanded Ayodele Babatola, the African Democratic Congress candidate for Ado constituency 1, over alleged rape.

According to the thecable.ng  report, the Ekiti police command said a 30-year-old woman, Bukola Oluwaseun, accused Babatola of forcefully having sexual intercourse with her at a hotel in Ado Ekiti on May 24, 2026.

Police spokesperson Abutu Sunday said the victim reportedly sustained injuries, while medical examinations allegedly confirmed penetration.

Babatola, however, denied the allegation, claiming he became angry after the woman allegedly requested payment before sex and insisted penetration did not occur.

Following investigations by the State CID, the ADC candidate was charged to court and remanded at the Ado-Ekiti correctional centre pending further proceedings.
Meanwhile, some ADC stakeholders in Ekiti protested the arrest and detention, describing the case as politically motivated. Party chieftain Gboyega Aribisogan alleged that Babatola was being targeted because of his criticism of the Ekiti State Government and accused security operatives of using remand orders against opposition figures.
