The United States Treasury Department is reportedly considering plans to feature President Donald Trump on a proposed $250 bill as part of activities marking America’s 250th anniversary.
According to reports by CNN, the Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP), an agency under the US Treasury, is carrying out preliminary planning in response to proposed legislation known as the “Donald J. Trump $250 Bill Act,” introduced in Congress in February 2026.
If approved, the move would make Trump the first living person to appear on US paper currency in more than 150 years, despite existing federal laws that generally prohibit living individuals from being featured on American notes and bonds.
A spokesperson for the Treasury Department reportedly confirmed that the agency was conducting “appropriate planning and due diligence” in anticipation of possible legislative approval for the commemorative note.
The proposal has generated mixed reactions across the United States. Former First Lady Hillary Clinton mocked the idea in a post on X, saying the bill could eventually “buy one gallon of gas and a carton of eggs” by the end of Trump’s term.
The proposed legislation is yet to be passed by the US House of Representatives.
Reports also indicate that Trump’s signature may appear on the commemorative currency if the bill eventually becomes law.
