Popular social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of deepening hardship across the country and allegedly using huge sums of money to secure political support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a viral video shared online, VDM urged Nigerians to reject Tinubu’s possible re-election bid, claiming the President had failed to improve citizens’ welfare since assuming office in 2023.
“This is the time Nigerians should say no. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu cannot come back because he has failed and continues to fail,” he said.
The activist argued that poverty and economic hardship had worsened under the current administration, adding that ordinary Nigerians were struggling despite promises of economic recovery.
VDM also alleged that governors were being offered as much as ₦250 billion to align politically with the ruling party, though he did not provide evidence to support the claim.
“That is why you go around paying governors huge amounts to join you politically. If the government had performed well, there would be no need to spend heavily on campaigns,” he alleged.
He further called on Nigerians, especially youths active on social media, to participate in elections rather than limiting themselves to online debates.
“Most people arguing online do not even have voter cards. If Nigerians truly want change, they must participate in the voting process,” he said.
VDM stated that he plans to mobilise voters ahead of future elections, saying massive voter turnout would make electoral manipulation more difficult.
While maintaining that he would not endorse any particular candidate, the activist insisted he would continue speaking against Tinubu’s re-election.
He also referenced past remarks allegedly made by Tinubu on electricity supply, claiming the administration had failed to deliver on key promises relating to power, the economy and insecurity.
As of the time of filing this report, the Presidency had not officially responded to the allegations raised in the viral video.
