President Bola Tinubu has reflected on the challenges he faced in his quest to become Nigeria’s President, describing the journey as one marked by intense political battles and personal sacrifices.
Tinubu spoke on Friday at his Lagos residence while receiving members of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum on a Sallah homage visit led by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
The President expressed appreciation to governors and political allies who stood by him during the difficult period leading to his emergence as the nation’s leader.
Recalling the hurdles encountered during the campaign and electioneering process, Tinubu said he chose to confront the challenges head-on rather than retreat.
“Instead of dodging the bullet, I took it. I took a hard punch in the chin,” he said.
He noted that the journey to the Presidency tested the loyalty, patience and resilience of many of his supporters, adding that several individuals remained steadfast despite the pressure and uncertainties.
“We stayed together during the period when I was pursuing the ambition to become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It was a very challenging and difficult time, not only for me but also for those who stood with me,” Tinubu stated.
The President said he embarked on the campaign with determination, keeping many of his plans private while relying on the commitment of party members and supporters who believed in his vision.
“I made the decision to take the risk and campaign. I did not disclose everything I intended to do, but many of you trusted the party and joined me on the journey,” he added.
Tinubu also commended members of the Governors’ Forum for their support and contributions to the success of his political project, describing their role as crucial in overcoming the obstacles encountered along the way.
