The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has taken into custody 10 persons over alleged involvement in vandalism of critical national assets, kidnapping, theft and other criminal offences within the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states.
The development was made public in a statement released by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, ACC Afolabi Babawale.
According to the statement, the arrests were effected in compliance with the directive of the Commandant-General, Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mandating heightened operations against economic sabotage and crimes undermining public infrastructure.
Babawale explained that the suspects were rounded up by the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad in collaboration with the CG’s Crack Squad, following actionable intelligence and reinforced operational measures.
Items reportedly recovered from the suspects include armoured cables suspected to have been vandalised, as well as weapons believed to have been deployed in executing the alleged crimes.
The statement added that the suspects would face prosecution upon the completion of investigations.
Reiterating its firm stance against the destruction of national assets, the Corps warned that perpetrators of economic sabotage would be dealt with decisively under the law, while assuring residents of the FCT and surrounding states of sustained efforts to secure lives, property and critical infrastructure.
