The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has transferred the sexual assault complaint involving a TikTok user, Mirabel, known online as @mirab351, to security authorities in Ogun State after confirming the incident occurred outside Lagos.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the agency said it successfully established contact with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from hospital after receiving medical care.
The allegation, which surfaced on social media earlier in the week, drew significant public attention after the content creator claimed she was attacked in her apartment by an unidentified individual, quickly gained traction, with the hashtag #StopRapingWomen trending on X, formerly Twitter, as users demanded justice and stronger protection for women.
The agency acknowledged the role played by members of the public in amplifying the case and providing useful leads.
It noted that following its initial public notice and the wave of online reactions, it received helpful information through direct messages and tags, which aided efforts to reach those close to the survivor.
Clarifying its position, the agency stated that findings showed the alleged assault took place in Ogun State, placing the matter beyond its statutory mandate.
According to the statement, all relevant details gathered have been formally relayed to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State in the spirit of inter-agency cooperation and to safeguard the survivor’s interests.
The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is now handling the investigation and stressed the importance of full cooperation to ensure a thorough probe and due legal process.
It further reiterated its commitment to providing support services to survivors of sexual and domestic violence and encouraged individuals to make use of its established reporting channels for assistance.
