Human rights activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has raised fresh concerns over rising political tension in Ondo State, alleging that lives were lost during a crackdown allegedly linked to supporters of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa.
In a Facebook post sighted by Legal Observer on Wednesday, Sowore claimed that at least three persons were killed in Idanre following what he described as a violent political clampdown. The activist warned residents of the state to remain alert, alleging that the situation posed serious danger to public safety.
He further alleged that a relative of the Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Ade Adetimehin, was brutally attacked in Idanre and left critically injured.
Sowore also claimed that the APC chairman himself had earlier been targeted in a separate incident, although he did not provide evidence to support the allegations.
The activist accused the governor of fostering political violence and warned that escalating tensions could destabilise the state if not urgently addressed.
He urged residents to remain vigilant amid what he described as worsening political developments.
Sowore also called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take note of the unfolding situation, cautioning against ignoring early warning signs of political unrest.
Drawing historical parallels, he referenced the political crisis involving former Ondo politician Akin Omoboriowo, warning that unchecked political excesses had previously led to serious consequences in the state.
As of the time of filing this report, the Ondo State Government and the state chapter of the APC had yet to officially respond to the allegations.
Efforts to obtain reactions from relevant authorities were ongoing.
