The University of Abuja has appealed for public assistance following the disappearance of one of its first-year students.
The institution, in a statement issued on Thursday by its Acting Director of Information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, identified the missing student as Sadiya Usman of the Department of Accounting.
According to the statement, the undergraduate was last seen on Tuesday, February 18, 2026, after leaving her residence at Kontagora Estate in Gwagwalada at about 8:00 a.m.
She was reportedly on her way to the university’s Main Campus to participate in a Computer-Based Test for GST 111 but failed to arrive at her destination and has not been heard from since.
The university said a report filed by her guardian revealed that repeated attempts to reach her via telephone were unsuccessful, as her line remained unreachable and her current location unknown.
Management disclosed that it had triggered internal safety measures and was working in collaboration with security agencies to intensify efforts aimed at locating the student as quickly as possible.
Describing the situation as distressing, the institution noted that members of the university community were deeply worried about her safety.
It called on anyone with useful information regarding her whereabouts to notify the nearest police formation or contact the university’s Directorate of Safety.
The management reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard the well-being of its students and assured that further updates would be provided as developments unfold.
