An aide to Festus O. Akingbaso has dismissed allegations that the lawmaker planned to import thugs into Idanre, describing the claim as false and intended to mislead the public.
The clarification followed violent incidents that reportedly occurred during the All Progressives Congress ward congress held in the local government on February 18, 2026, which resulted in loss of lives, injuries and destruction of property.
In a statement issued on Friday and signed by Kelvin Babalola on behalf of the Fessy West Media Team, the aide said earlier allegations contained in a petition accusing the lawmaker of planning violence were baseless and should be disregarded.
Babalola stated that the accusations were a calculated attempt to shift blame and cover the actions of those allegedly responsible for the unrest, insisting that Akingbaso had consistently promoted peace and lawful political participation.
He maintained that the federal lawmaker had never sponsored or encouraged violence, adding that his political engagements have always centred on unity, development and peaceful coexistence within the constituency.
The aide condemned the violence recorded during the congress and called on security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to identify and prosecute those behind the disturbances.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities, warning that the community could not afford another outbreak of violence.
The statement further appealed to security operatives to heighten surveillance and prevent any form of mayhem, reaffirming the lawmaker’s commitment to peace and stability across Idanre and surrounding communities.
