A previous video showing Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo allegedly cautioning Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has re-emerged online, drawing widespread attention amid recent security concerns in the state.
The footage, said to have been recorded on July 18, 2025, during a political event in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area, captured the governor issuing a warning regarding Obi’s movements within Edo State.
In the viral 58-second clip circulating across social media platforms, Okpebholo stated that Obi should not visit the state without notifying him, stressing that he could not guarantee the politician’s safety otherwise.
The governor also remarked that any incident that might occur during such a visit would be borne by Obi, comments that have since generated intense debate online.
The video resurfaced shortly after reports of an alleged assassination attempt targeting Obi and members of the African Democratic Congress during a political engagement in Edo State.
The attack reportedly occurred at the residence of former Edo State governor and state ADC chairman, John Odigie Oyegun, where the political leaders had gathered.
Videos recorded after the incident showed visible damage to vehicles in Obi’s convoy, including shattered windscreens and bullet impacts on parts of the motorcade.
In reaction, several social media users connected the resurfaced footage to the incident, calling for heightened security and urging authorities to ensure the safety of political figures operating within the state.
