Nigerian gospel singer, Busola Oke, has publicly shared her ordeal with financial hardship, revealing that she is grappling with debt, emotional turmoil and uncertainty about her future in the music industry.
The singer became tearful during a live broadcast on TikTok, where she spoke about the weight of her struggles and the difficulty of earning a stable income through gospel music.
In an interview with actress Biola Bayo, which was posted on Instagram on Wednesday, Oke explained that her emotional breakdown stemmed from prolonged isolation, frustration and economic challenges.
She revealed that she has not owned a vehicle in the past five years and is currently burdened by multiple debts. According to her, she has faced serious challenges meeting basic living expenses, including rent and feeding.
The artiste said she deliberately kept her predicament away from the public since 2020 because she did not want to be pitied or ridiculed.
“I became emotional during my live session because I felt lonely, depressed and overwhelmed.
I have never been someone who asks people for help. I kept silent about what I have been going through because I didn’t want to be mocked. Despite knowing many people, I had no support,” she said.
Oke disclosed that at one point, she was unable to renew her N1m rent and struggled to afford meals. She added that she is presently staying in a hotel while battling to offset outstanding bills.
She appealed for stability, noting that she needs accommodation and a car, even if it is not brand new, as transportation costs have further strained her finances.
“The last car I had was in 2020. I am owing several people and trying to settle my debts. Sometimes, I spend the money meant for food on Uber rides. I just need a place to stay and a car, even if it is an old one,” she said.
Her disclosure has drawn sympathy from fans and social media users, many of whom have expressed concern and urged support for the singer.
