The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 11 individuals linked to the abduction of worshippers at a Celestial Church located along the Uso/Owo Expressway, Uso, as security agencies continue efforts to rescue those still in captivity.
The announcement was made on Friday during a press conference where police authorities provided an update on the ongoing investigation and security operations surrounding the incident.
Addressing journalists, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, said the suspects were apprehended following coordinated operations carried out by police operatives in collaboration with the Nigerian Army and local vigilante groups.
The command explained that the attack occurred around 12:50 a.m. on February 25, 2026, when armed men reportedly invaded the church premises and forcefully took away six worshippers to an undisclosed location.
Police said swift deployment of tactical and intelligence teams led to the rescue of one of the victims and the arrest of an initial suspect, while continued investigations produced further breakthroughs resulting in more arrests.
According to the command, those arrested are currently being questioned and have supplied valuable information expected to support ongoing operations aimed at dismantling the criminal syndicate and securing the release of the remaining victims.
The police also advised religious leaders to reassess late-night worship activities for now and strengthen security arrangements, urging members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements to security agencies.
