The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has thrown its weight behind the revised 2027 general election timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, declaring it fair, realistic and beneficial to all political parties without exception.
The party’s Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, made this known during an interactive session with journalists in Akure, the state capital, where he vigorously defended INEC’s schedule and dismissed what he described as baseless criticisms trailing the announcement.
Otaloro argued that the introduction of digital membership registers by INEC represented a bold and progressive reform with the potential to deepen transparency, strengthen internal party discipline and eliminate disputes arising from manipulated registers during primaries.
He further maintained that the timetable was released well in advance, affording all political parties sufficient time to meet regulatory requirements, adding that any organised party with credible structures should face no difficulty keeping updated membership databases and conducting orderly primaries.
The APC chieftain did not mince words in dismissing allegations by the African Democratic Congress that the timetable was deliberately designed to favour President Bola Tinubu and the ruling party, describing such claims as speculative, mischievous and devoid of any factual basis.
According to Otaloro, INEC operates strictly within constitutional parameters and its decisions remain administrative rather than partisan, warning that those who seek to politicise electoral procedures risk eroding public confidence in Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
The party maintained that electoral victories are ultimately determined by the quality of governance, noting that ongoing economic and institutional reforms under the Tinubu administration would speak for themselves when Nigerian voters go to the polls in 2027.
