Iran: History will remember Sánchez – Shehu Sani

Former senator representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District, Shehu Sani, has praised Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, for what he described as a courageous and principled stand against actions that could breach international law.

Sani, who served in the Eighth Senate, took to his verified X handle on Tuesday to applaud the Spanish leader amid rising global tensions and reports of pressure from the United States over access to Spanish military bases for a potential strike on Iran.

“The Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, has distinguished himself as a principled leader with a conscience for refusing to be used to violate international law and wage illegal wars,” Sani wrote.

The former lawmaker further stated that Sánchez’s position had enhanced Spain’s moral authority within Europe.

“He thrust his nation as a European moral compass. History will remember him as one who stood up to a bully and stood out against war,” Sani added.

The remarks followed Spain’s firm response to reported threats from US President, Donald Trump, after Madrid declined to grant access to its military facilities for a possible offensive against Iran.

Reacting to the development, Sánchez reiterated his government’s position, saying, “Our stance can be summed up in four words: ‘No to the war.’”
